After 7 years of living in Venice I finally took the leap and moved away from the beach! I'm pretty sure I had an anxiety attack. I thought I was going to miss it like crazy! I was scared of all these new things...like the new shower being too small, the light fixtures not being right, parking, the location of the stove, and all these silly things. But I LOVE my new home and I really don't miss my old home one bit. I let it go and moved on. And with this I want to get rid of all of my old stuff, my rainbow bright colored stuff, and just clear the choas out of my home. I have been so inspired by the interior of this modern Australian farmhouse and would move here in an instant. I want to infuse as much of this style into my home as possible. I've gradually been getting rid of some of my favorite pieces and am still looking for more perfect pieces to create our soothing modern yet eclectic home!

And here's a glimpse inside our new home.

There's a lot of work to be done, but this space will continue to keep me inspired! We'll be shopping for the following: New Rug, Pillows, Curtains, Paint Color, Shelves, Lamps, Plants, and the list goes on! I'll post pics as I go!

Gosh wouldn't it be wonderful to be one of the first lucky guests to stay at the newly renovated Hotel Du Marc of Veuve Clicquot in Reims, France. Well Costas over at Yatzer was and I'm a bit jealous! All I have is a Veuve Clicquot pillow that an unnamed someone somehow managed to bring back from a party in New Zealand. I guess this pillow, these amazing photos, and this interview with Sabina, the International Marketing Manager, and the first lady behind Bruno Moinard's incredible design will just take my breath away for now! Until next time...when hopefully I'll be sipping on some champagne and experiencing this for myself! xx

Perfectly Imperfected Elisa Nalin

For some reason tonight I cannot sleep. I've been tossing and turning in bed for about 4 hours...boo. So I get up to maybe try sleeping on my half moon shaped sofa (the most comfortable thing in the world) and make a pit stop to check out some inspiring stuff on the internet and come across this amazing home of stylist and shoe designer Elisa Nalin over at The Selby! I'm in love! There's something about the view into an artist's home that is so inspiring to me. I spend my days designing for others and I try to create something that's so perfect for each and every client. But what is perfection? Is it a perfectly organized closet with the exact accessories needed, is it the perfect refrigerator built in completely flush and plumb and so concealed you don't know it's there, does the lamp work perfectly with the accessory for that side table. There are times when we worry so much about perfection we forget who we are. Do I work perfectly in this space, my imperfections and all. Does it speak my story and my language? Elisa's story is pure and perfect! Love. Love. Love.

I'm no shoe designer and my shoes are not designer, but this is an amazing idea for shoes in my space. I tried to get rid of shoes so I laid them all out on the floor they covered my entire bedroom floor...about 88 pairs and I'm sure it's grown since. Every day I'm like I need to do something about my stinkin shoes. So I put them back in the plastic container and shove them under my bed and have no idea what's even there.

Oh and my closet this is a whole nother story. About 3 feet wide and jam packed full. I just need to clean this sucker out and throw stuff away. I always wish I could just have a hanging rack with the perfect amount of perfectly colored clothes, but I know what's not going to happen. Mine would look like this and i guess be perfectly imperfect.

I've been thinking a lot about this lately...where do you draw that line. Well, I think Debbie Smyth has got it figured out, so maybe I should call her and ask for some advice! Get out your hammers, nails, and thread ready. She has developed a "visually stunning technique to create playful but sophisticated artworks using a networks of threads stretched between plotted pins." I want one of these installations on my walls...NOW! Debbie I need your advice and your art :-)

Feeling Pink

Happy Friday! Hope your first week of 2011 was a good one! I'm kinda freaking out about all these random deaths of black birds, doves, fish, and crabs what about you?! So for this reason I'm just going to think about pink or something like that cuz it's just so darn innocent and sweet.

Ice skating in the sun, surrounded by flowers, with a goose on your head, now this is life:-)

I need some more pink in my life! If I had this pink dining table maybe I'd have more dinner parties...Goal for 2011!

A bubble bath with my Tokyo Milk No 02 would be so good in this pink bathroom and in this beautiful clawfoot tub. As my mom says if this scent was to have a color it would be Light Pink. Thanks Mom, this was the best gift ever!

Amazing Owl, Can You Hold Me Up?

My grandmother passed away a few years ago and I miss her very dearly. I discovered that she had this amazing collection of vintage owl jewelry and I am now the proud owner of many of her pieces. My aunt gave me another one of my grandmothers owl necklaces for Christmas this year which I am so thankful for and I love it so much! Thanks Shelby! These little gifts mean so much to me and everytime I wear one of these pieces I feel like it has the power to hold me up just like this awesome guy would do! Oh owls and grandma I love you!

Happy New Year to all of you! I'm super excited about all the possibilities and opportunities 2011 is about to present. I can't remember the last time I was actually this ready for a new year! I'm ready to refocus and let out all this energy that has been brewing up inside. So many wonderful things happened last year and some not so wonderful things, but many were blessed with amazing success and have so much to be excited about. Here's to a new year filled with even more joy, success, much love, and pure happiness. And wishing everyone balance and harmony between all that life brings your way this year.

What a great year 2010 was for Amanda and Jolene over at Domicile ID. Jolene studied interior design at Iowa State University with me and I am sooo proud of her and of course Amanda too! In case you missed it, Jolene's condo was featured in the last issue of Rue magazine, which was jaw dropping by the way, as is Jolene's condo. I know Domicile ID has an incredible year ahead of them and I can't wait to see more amazing work from you two lovely ladies! Much Love!

Design Milk: The Beat Boxed 19

Check out my latest The Beat Boxed: Jonsi, one of my favorites of the moment! So super bummed I missed his LA concert a few weeks ago. Did any of you go?!

Jónsi, the mastermind behind the Icelandic group Sigur Rós, released his solo album Go earlier this year and I have been absolutely captivated by it. The music explodes deep into you, sprinkles you with fairy dust, ties a little string around your heart, lifts you up and takes you to magical places.

The video production is absolutely brilliant and the live stage shows take the performance to an entirely different level. 59 Productions has created a truly mind blowing show that blasts your senses through a hybrid of art and performance. The journey you go on throughout Jónsi’s show is something you will never be prepared for. The main inspiration behind the live stage shows was the photography of the 2008 fires at Deyrolles, the strangest and most famous taxidermy shop in Paris. As devastating as this was, photographer Laurent Bochet was able to capture this hauntingly beautiful moment that has become such an inspiration to many. 59 productions has taken these moments and Jónsi’s creative ideas and translated this into a dynamic visual performance of life, death, and freedom of animals and nature. Take a peek into the making of the live show:

Not like that in itself isn’t enough inspiration, but the Jónsi’s song “Go Do” is being used in the latest commercial for Dulux’s Let’s Colour Project. This project is all about spreading color throughout the world to engage and bring happiness into communities that were once gray.

As I translate Jónsi’s music into an interior I have been very influenced by both the animal and nature concept behind Jónsi’s live shows and the Let’s Colour Project. I have combined the bold and brilliant colors with the raw and lifeless to create a contrast with depth and emotion. The pattern and texture in each of the pieces evoke a sense of excitement. While the energy in this room swirls around and dances with you!

Black and White Floors

Every year I think I'll get over my black and white obsession, but you know what it's just not happening...and I'm OK with that. I am absolutely loving these black and white floors and would paint the floors in my apartment in a heartbeat if I could! The handpainted ceramic tiles are stunning as well! I just finished up a project where we did not have the budget to install new tile, so we painted the ceramic tile floors instead. They are gorgeous I must say! Final install is on Sunday, so I'll post pics soon!

now here's an idea...apply vinyl to the floor and just design anything you want! I'm obsessed with illustration almost as much as I'm obsessed with black and white, so this one is my favorite!

From Dark to Light

The old world charm and character of these spaces makes me feel all cozy inside. The darkness on the inside subtly glows as the soft rays filter in through the hazy gray skies. The windows stand tall, and because of this, there is no wrong!

I'm a sucker for big windows, what can I say. As much as I like feeling all cozy inside I also like feeling fresh and clean. The glistening light billows in from the gray skies as these white interiors shine brightly. Aww so fresh...and this puts me at ease.

Now which of these styles are more me? Ask me today and ask me tomorrow and I'm sure my answer will never be the same. Give me one here and one there and let's just call it a day!

I'm just going to let your jaw drop as you take a look at the interior photography of Giorgio Possenti. I sit here dreaming of mountains and snow as the first days of summer hit Southern California...again. I feel the warmth and the character within each one of these spaces even though the colors are neutral and the elements are raw.

Modern Industrial Workspaces

So last weekend felt like the first days of summer. And this weekend, well, the first days of fall. The skies were gray, the breeze was cool, and the smell of wood burning stoves drifted through the air. I missed out on the hayrack rides and the trip to the apple orchard, but I did enjoy myself a pumpkin spice latte...I guess that will do.

These offices make me want to put on a nice warm wool sweater, the perfectly worn pair of jeans, and a pair of moccasins. Once I'm dressed I might as well go chop some wood for that wood burning stove, right?! These spaces make me feel all cozy inside even though the elements are raw. The wood just brings in such warmth to the modern industrial spaces. Wishing you all a wonderful work week!

2. They are from Auckland, New Zealand. One of my favorite places!
3. The Naked and Famous is an awesome name and they took it from the lyrics of a Tricky song.
4. They just won the APRA Silver Scroll, New Zealand’s most prestigious songwriting award, for their number one single Young Blood.
5. Their video for Young Blood rocks and is directed by the über-talented Special Problems. Don’t trust me though…check it out for yourself NOW!

The music of The Naked and Famous magically makes me feel carefree and at ease. As it plays, all my favorite things in the world start flashing through my mind. My favorite country in the world is New Zealand, my favorite place to be is outdoors, and an outdoor shower on the mountainside… yeah that’s in my dreams! A contemplative space, a little poem.” The music of The Naked and Famous speaks the same way to me. And I like what you see. This room is telling so many interesting stories in just one little composition. I feel like I need a guided tour. I love all these deep colors layered with the rustic textures.

Design Milk: The Beat Boxed 17

Here is my latest Beat Boxed: La Roux from Design Milk.An 80’s-inspired revivalist act, a trendsetter fighting against the trends, the anti-pop star pop star, whatever has been said about La Roux, the uniqueness of their futuristic sounds and Elly Jackson’s empowering lyrics is undeniable. The synth-laden pop has taken over charts in the UK and the US and continues to have an effect on everyone who listens. This appetite for synth pop keeps getting bigger and bigger, taking the once underground act the mainstream way. Although this was not the intention of La Roux (it was actually something they were against) but as it’s happening they are embracing it. Elly is easily recognizable with her signature wild red hair and her distinctive androgynous style and has become the photographer’s easy target. Their new album Sidetracked is now out, which is a snapshot of their biggest musical influences, but features only one of their new songs.

I love this video of “I’m Not Your Toy” for its pure quirkiness. We’ve got the tribal fashion and vibe, mixed with the futuristic personas and glowing sticks. The crazy characters dance weirdly around the pool in a steamy greenhouse and lounge around in retro wicker chairs…

Take a peek into the La Roux-esque bedroom. The eclectic style is 80’s inspired, but definitely goes above and beyond. Much like the video it’s filled with weird juxtapositions that oddly work together to create something funky and offbeat. The music and style of La Roux exudes characteristics that are definitely not mainstream, but are keen to a style that will attract you and dominate your senses. The retro 70’s regency bed frame and 50’s art unite with the 80’s bedding fabric. These styles unpredictably combine with the modern rug, chair, and side table to just fascinate you. The room just wouldn’t be the same without the Plexiglas fish tank!

These interior shots from Casa D magazine conceptually remind me of La Roux. These pink walls cannot be forgotten and will get everyone’s attention much like Elly Jackson, the “red-haired one.” The room is a blast of style, but is not about creating the standard space just as all others do. It can still remain androgynous in style and form. The bed sits behind closed doors just like Ben Langmaid does…pure genius, but not too eager to be exposed. When you close off these doors the space appears to be solo, but little do you know what a masterpiece is hiding behind them.

I have a great camera that I don't use or know how to use nearly as much or as good as I should. I started a little series earlier in the year, well at least I have a dusty folder on my computer, called Sunday Morning Walks. So rather than letting these photos collect even more dust in my folders I decided to start posting them on my Tumblr site, which had also been collecting loads of dust. Hopefully this will also inspire me to get out and photograph more and maybe one day I can stop saying, "I have a camera, but I really suck at using it!" Venice Beach is such a colorful, quirky, and loud place, but as I walk around with my headphones snapping shots in black and white it feels very serene to me. Walk out my front door with me...

Hope you all had a great weekend! I am feeling so refreshed after the most peaceful day I've had in who knows how long! I slept in, the windows open with a cool breeze blowing in, went to Farmers Market, relaxed and read a book on the beach, took a nap, and went rollerblading on the boardwalk into the sunset. As I sit here listening to Tegan and Sara and scrolling through Rum Magazine site, the only thing that would make it better is if I was curled up on the couch with...i guess the Rum Magazine in my hand;-) Here's a bit of the deliciousness I'm taking in right now!

Fall Color Palette

When I saw the flyer the other day that read LABOR DAY, I was like what the hey! I cannot believe summer is on it's way out. My true love lies in fall, so rather than being bummed that summer is passing away I got excited about this fresh start.
This is the color palette I'm obsessing over for this season. The deep dusty teals and grays, mixed with the shimmery golds, glossy blacks, and pops of bold. I'm still loving the rustic elements mixed with the clean sleek lines, but I'm liking things a bit more refined. I'm gradually weaning away from my black and white obsession from last season, but still obsessing over white and gray hardwood floors!

Current Bathroom Remodel: Before + After

I don't share too many of my personal projects on this blog, but this one I couldn't pass up! We are just about finished up with the condo remodel on Wilshire Blvd. and I had to give you sneak peek of the master bathroom. I think it's coming together beautifully! The client wanted a calm clean sanctuary that opened up to the views of the city and he got just that!

The "Seventy" vanity from Idea Group in a matte laquer is perfection and the freestanding tub is perfect for soaking and taking in those city views. The niche above the tub is wrapped in Caesarstone and filled with light and just glows in the night.

The freestanding tub and waterfall spout create a very spa like feel. The flooring is a white Quartz porcelain tile and looks impeccable.

Aquatek countertop with integrated sinks. Seamless.
View from the tub. Now just imagine the city lights. This is a condo on the 16th floor.The perfect niche for all your bubble bath and spa needs. I'm ready to get in please!

The double pocket doors allow the bathroom to be completely open to the master bedroom.

And they can still be closed off for privacy.

Here are the before pictures! Can you even believe that the client initially wanted to keep the cabinets and maybe even the marble! Eeek!

Here is my last weeks Beat Boxed post for Design Milk! I am still obsessing over the music of Theophilus London! I even got my mom listening to to it:-)

I'm a little late on posting my last The Beat Boxed: Beach House article, but since it feels like summer is just beginning here in Venice Beach it feels a bit more appropriate today! Enjoy!

Teen Dream by Beach House is the perfect album for these lazy days of summer. Lying beneath the soft sultry sound is something a little deeper and slightly darker than what may initially appear at the surface. You might even say it’s something to the likes of a David Lynch movie. It’s the slower than average tempo and the dreamlike beauty in the voice and instrumentation of Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand that flutters into your mind and dances around like it’s the only thing there. You all should know the rules at the beach house. Relax, Relax, Relax.

And do just that as you watch the video for the Norway, the first single off of Teen Dream:

Now I am just going to imagine I’m at the Lazy Ole Moon Motel in some rugged beach town. The evening haze sets in, and the air is warm and humid on this hot summer night. The renderings are fabulous, the open courtyard is stunning, the architecture is sculptural and playful. I might just have to add some graffiti/murals to the interior courtyard walls, but other than that this concept is perfection!

'Bamboo Charlie'

"Be Happy...Smile...Watcha gonna dog gone frown for." -'Bamboo Charlie'

This story about 'Bamboo Charlie' in the LA Times earlier this week brought tears to my eyes. It more than inspired me. It's a story like this that opens up your heart, let's you truly appreciate life and just accept that we are all different. Like Charlie says people have different views of the homeless, but when people see the way he lives it changes the way they think about it.
As you open up the gate into this bamboo filled haven, the path lined with dolls, cars, action figures, and statues will guide you through 'Bamboo Charlie's' creative oasis! It's like a curated museum filled with treasures only he has the story for and I want a guided tour:-)
This is the little shack he has set up for himself. I'm digging the curtains!
Just enjoying a show under the stars! Feeling blessed.
Living on Venice Beach I am faced with homelessness on a daily basis. I am so overwhelmed by it at times, have so much compassion for these people, and want to reach out and help. There are camps set up in front of my apartment every night. I can hear the conversations plain as day. I see them set up their beds and clean up their beds. I watch them work hard and be proud of the work that they have done. I watch them watch each others backs and guard each others possessions. Each time I walk out my door I say "Good morning" to my neighbors. And let me tell you. no where else have I ever received so many smiles and "good mornings" on a morning walk. On any given morning I can count at least 10 genuine smiles and sincere "good mornings". Most coming from the homeless. I cannot explain the happiness this brings to me. A smile and a friendly hello is something that you cannot put a value on.

It's sometimes crazy for me to think that I spend my days designing beautiful homes for people when there are so many people without homes. I then realize that a home, no matter how big or small, or how much money it costs, or if even if it's just a cardboard box and a cot on the ground needs to be filled with love. As I look around my home I realize it was created with love and from the heart and not just designed. The pieces mean something to me and most of them have a story to tell. Which is very similar to this oasis 'Bamboo Charlie' has created for himself. As a designer my goal is to tell your story through design...I continuously say this, but this is why I love what I do...cause everyone's got a story to tell!

{As my way of reaching out to the homeless I have began to volunteer for Los Angeles Youth Network so I can help bring LA's more than 10,000 homeless youth home.}

My Dream: Tiny Victorian Cottage

If you can't find me this week, pretty sure it's because I ran off to this magical Tiny Victorian Cottage in the Catskills! I think I could talk Ms. Foster into doing a housing swap, don't you think?Ms. Foster renovated this little hunting cabin on a $3000 budget and has created her dream shabby chic retreat, even though it doesn't have a kitchen or a bathroom.
Seriously, this looks like a little bit of heaven! Can you just imagine waking up to the sound of chirping birds, a soft breeze, and the sunshine!
The chandeliers sparkle with grace as they float from the ceiling.
These salvaged doors frame the gorgeous stacks of Limoges china.

Ms. Foster, it looks stunning! Wow, can you believe she renovated this place herself! When Ms. Foster is not retreating in her gorgeous cottage, she resides across the stream in this 1971 mobile home with her husband Mr. Foster. The simple life...oh how I miss thee!

in the mountains of Canejan, Vall d’Aran, Spain for a few hours! What a serene place! I think I might even enjoy washing my dishes after my nap just so I could take in the view for a bit longer:-)

Dana Barnes: Textile Designer

Dana Barnes, a fashion designer turned textile designer, is living [in] my dream! Her wide open loft space has inspired her latest collection of work which is called Souled Objects. She has softened her sparse space through the placement of her felted objects around her studio. With her offices on the top floor and the artists working throughout, i must say, this is my ideal live/work situation. Check out the entire article here.

I just want to take my shoes off and stand on this felted rug! I bet it feels like a bit of heaven underfoot!
Just how gorgeous are these textures?

The top felted rug reminds me of bubbles overflowing from the bathtub and the bottom one like a gopher got loose in the garden! I love them both equally! And the most exciting thing about this all...soon her collection will debut at BDDW, one of my all time favorite stores!

It's been awhile, but here is my latest Beat Boxed post from Design Milk.
Introducing...the Bloody Beetroots!

The Bloody Beetroots from Italy, heard of them? No, this is not some band that debuted at the Salon Internationale del Mobile in April, but I thought it seemed fitting since I have not written a Beat Boxed post since before Milan. Many of you may be obsessed with them, a few of you may have heard about them, some of you may have absolutely no idea who they are, but no matter what the Bloody Beetroots are taking the club and electronic music scene to new levels. Bob Rifo and Tommy Tea are turning the world of electronic music upside down and changing the entire concept. These are not a couple of guys twiddling knobs; this is the DJ set as primal punk rock show. You can expect to find a full drum kit on stage, every keyboard or synth you’d expect to find in a studio, and even guitars; three people playing instruments, being mixed by a fourth person…LIVE. Their shows are about the experience and the insane amounts of energy being shared between the Bloody Beetroots and the fans. This is a show where absolutely everyone will be dancing as the beats are thrown down.

Bob Rifo is the mastermind behind the Venom mask and the Bloody Beetroots. It is he who is responsible for their myriad creations. After years of studying classical music such as Beethoven and Debussy, Rifo tuned into the punk, electronic, and 80’s new wave music. After a “dizzying odyssey” called his first solo project, Rifo created Bloody Beetroots as his alter ego which draws on all of his life experiences to date. His goal is to work with artists around the world, and poise Bloody Beetroots as a truly international sound. “I want to sit at the table with a Chinese person one day, and the next with an African, and the day after with a Vietnamese, and absorb their different cultures, to learn and to inspire myself and my music,” Rifo insists. As a band that is constantly redefining the way people view the music and scene in which they perform, the space must represent the same ideals. The pieces of furniture although traditional in their purpose are breaking all sorts of boundaries. Come on in, hang your coat up on that rope over there…no it’s not an escape route! Have a seat in this memory chair…don’t worry it won’t forget you! Oh I’ll get the milk…oops that’s a light! I am sure they will be projecting the amazing creation of their latest video “DOMINO” on these stark white walls. This song and the video, through the combination of music, image, and cinematography, defines their commitment of exploration of the ways to build another conception in music.

Things I Heart This Week.

I just spent a fabulous weekend on the Oregon Coast scoping out a new project! I went down to the beach each morning for a gorgeous walk. On my last day I was walking along, passing by millions of rocks, I looked down and this one, for some odd reason, caught my attention. I thought to myself I should pick that up, but I kept walking. After I was about 25 feet away I decided to turn around and go get that thing. When I picked it up it was a rock not just with a hole in it, but a rock with a heart in it! Oh heart I need to listen to you more often! So tonight I am just going to share with you a few things I "heart" this week!

I've shown you these before, but the "I love nice people who make cool things" posters by Will Bryant are the best! 4. My Birthday Wish

My birthday is coming up on Saturday and I've been racking my brain trying to make plans! I came across the gorgeous Hotel Azucar on Remodelista and decided this is where I want to be. Since it's located in Veracruz, Mexico you know it's not too far away, I could make it there right? Riiigghhtttt...in my dreams! So even though I cannot actually be here in person, this is where I will be in spirit on my birthday!

No Problem, I'll Take It!

This private villa by C+L Studio is so serene. I would seriously move in today...well not like that's even an option, but a girl can dream right! It's so minimal, but feels so inviting. A perfect retreat to clear the clutter. The landscape and the outdoor area have me drooling!

The indoor/outdoor feel of the space is perfect! I would be sitting outside on that patio or in the pool enjoying the nature as much as I could!

This is another one of their projects that is still in progress. I cannot wait to see it when it is complete!

Mia + Joelle's Bedroom Inspiration

Here's a sneak peek at the Moodboards for Mia + Joelle's bedroom design I have been working on with Hilary over at Pink Pianos.
This first board is just a color study for Joelle. She's an 8 year old southern california girl and loves the surf and the sand of course! We chose shades of blue, green, and yellow with the use of raw woods to create that beachy feel without creating something too literal.

The gorgeous bedding from Bungalow is the perfect combination of colors and subtle pattern! Love, Love, Love. The linen capiz sheers create that light and airy feel we are trying to capture. The rattan poofs and the hanging hammocks are a must! This bed from Pottery Barn is the perfect bed to lounge around in and layer with pillows! This is just the beginning...there will be more to come on this project!

The first board here is just for color inspiration for Mia, a 10 year old with a bit of a punk rock attitude! She's adorable and her little personality is really starting to blossom. Her favorite colors are purple and orange and she even provided us with some colored blocks that she chose for her color palette. The rooms have to stay consistent with the serene feel of the rest of the house, so we can't go too crazy in Mia's room although she wouldn't mind! Mia is very artistic and we need to find some creative for her to express her energy.

We think an upholstered headboard is a great solution for a teenager who's taste is always changing! I love these fabrics from Megan Adams Designs and think they add just the right amount of spunk and color intensity. The platform bed is great and we are thinking of lacquering it a color...maybe a gray! The Funky Zebra Rug by Diane VonFurstenburg for the Rug Company adds that special twist so this room doesn't become too serious! Mia has a disco ball that we will hang from the ceiling and mix with some soft soft paper lanterns and flower poofs. Again this is just the beginning and there will be more to come!

Volcano, Volcano, Volcano...

I have been stranded in Milan + Pesaro since this incredible Icelandic eruption has decided to bless us with it's presence. My experience is something I cannot explain yet, but it has been full of chaos, stress, laughs, only 1 panic attack, new friendships, great food, wine, and design and finally a clear mind! I have so much information from the Salon Mobili in Milan that I would like to share with everyone and will do that soon! My free time has been spent trying to get a flight home and have not once sat down to write, but it feels great to do so. I just got a new flight yesterday and will be returning home on Sunday {huge sigh of relief}. I am technically stranded here by myself, but have become such great friends with people that I have not once felt alone and I will miss everyone when I go. I came across these photos of the volcano in Iceland taken Rebekka Gudlesfsdottir and am amazed by their beauty! These photos have given me the inspiration to see this experience through a new light.

"These horses are lucky for now. Farmers caught in the worst of the cloud have been forced to slaughter their animals (at least cows, not sure about horses) due to their land being devastated by the ash."

The Avalon + Kelly Wearstler

I'm a little late on posting this one, but since I saw Kelly Wearstler's re-design of the Avalon in the last Lonny I haven't been able to get it out of my head. The turquoise terrazzo, the gold and light blue leather chairs, the stripes...awwww! I love it all! I don't yet have any birthday plans...maybe the guest rooms will be done by then...hint, hint:-)

I absolutely love this David Hicks inspired feel in the cabanas!
Could this table be any more beautiful?

The Beat Boxed: Warpaint

I just realized I forgot to post my last Beat Boxed article on Warpaint, one of my FAVORITE Los Angeles bands!
I have mad respect for these three beautiful female artists and that one badass male drummer. I’ve been lucky enough to see Warpaint perform live many times and have stood front row with hips swaying, head bopping, and jaw dropping. I just let them take me away into this gorgeous ethereal hypnotic state. Their live shows are mesmerizing and when you close your eyes it’s as if you’re laughing and running against the wind through an open field and into a dark forest with bright streams of light filtering in. This is definitely a band to watch for in 2010.

The music of Warpaint is filled with energy and although at times it can be dark and eerie, the sounds are always beautiful. All parts work together to create something so surreal. The chemistry is natural and everything is perfectly unperfected. The sound really strips you down to a raw and unpolished state and just lets you feel.

As I interpret Warpaint into an interior I feel such a beautiful sense of mystery with this sweet, dark, and supernatural feel. When Warpaint was asked which movie best described their music the answer was Poltergeist, which literally means, “noisy spirit.” Each individual piece is beautiful, but the spirit behind the pieces is much darker. The Smoke and Mirrors piece deceives the eye while the Rope Lights dangle like nooses above the bronze sculpture. Soft feminine details of the moulding contrast with the raw concrete floor to create a slightly chilling effect. You can’t listen to Warpaint without, at some point feeling like you’re running through the forest, so this lamp is perfect with its turned base that emerges from an actual tree branch. Sit back and relax as the “Felt Up” chair wraps around you with its soft and gentle form and protects you from the beautiful eeriness that surrounds.

Christine d'Ornano Interior

The London home of "cosmetic royalty" Christine d'Ornano as featured in this months Elle Decor is filled with inspiration from her parents Parisian home and minimalist elements of architect Alex Michaelis.
This living room is perfect to me! I love every detail...especially the pink walls and the modern sconces.

The 1970's abstract floral upholstered walls is definitely influenced by her family's Parisian home. I love the use of abstract floral walls against the geometric pattern floors in the master bedroom. I could move into her home today:-)

New Bedtime + New Beds

How are you adjusting to the time change? I have a feeling it's going to have me feeling a little screwed up for this entire week. I know I should be going to bed right now, but I'm just not tired. So I'm sitting here looking at the gorgeous modern beds for a project I'm working on and just the thought of jumping into one of these beauties is actually starting to make me feeling a little sleepy.

I think this Loren Bed by Meridiani is just so glamourous! Love the tufting and the soft curves and the fact that it has storage underneath the mattress!

Oh the simplicity and of the Simple Bed...just gorgeous.

Because i love black and white I think this Interlubke Malo bed is pretty fabulous!

De La Espada...that's all I really need to say.

It's way past time for a new blog header. I've been thinking about this for quite sometime and came up with these deisgn concepts and am going to try one out for a bit. I am pretty happy with the layout, but not quite sure about the color and the fonts. Can you guys help me out and let me know your thoughts on the below options? Maison Moschino

Just today I got my tickets to the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan and am super excited! I studied in Rome, Italy in college, but had something crazy happen right before our trip to Milan and never made it. Now... I finally get to return. I am not sure where we are staying, but I would love it if we were staying here at the Maison Moschino.

Every room is different, and each one based around a fairy tale theme because "to sleep is perchance to dream, and dreams are fairy tales that we are allowed to experience first hand, the fables of a fantasy world that we have created."

I highly doubt there are any rooms available, but I am going to have to stop by and take a look at this gorgeous and innovative hotel. When I was a little girl I had a reoccurring dream about Alice and Wonderland and I can't help but wonder if I would have that dream as I lay down to sleep in one of these rooms. Zzzzzz...

Home Office Makeover...it's time!

Really, it's almost March?! Wow this year is flying by and has been crazy busy! Work, work, work! It's way past time for me to makeover my home office {area} into a much more functional and organized space! I've been saying for about the past 9 months that I am going to put shelves up above the desk. So far, it hasn't happened, but today I started going through my office inspiration folder...and here's what I found! Check out these gorgeous home offices!

This is pretty much what my office would look like if I added shelves and got a cat!

And this is kinda what it looks like now, minus the cool chairs, cool art, and unicycle. But everything is sitting on my long white desk and I'm dying to get it off!
Love this artwork, but the desk might be a little small for me!
Shelves and color...thumbs up to both.
Organized clutter. I think I could manage this!
I'm drooling over everything in this office...well except the tufted leather ottoman.

I totally agree with Will Bryant!

Like Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley, one of me and my fiances favorite artists! I have seen her perform multiple times, but what I really love about her is that I have also seen her in the audience of many other shows. I think she's fab!
I saw Jenny Lewis in the audience of a Maria Taylor show and I LOVE Maria Taylor. I just pulled out my old ipod and I have had Maria Taylor on repeat. Her voice makes my heart sink. And even though she says this song is not a love song...it is to me!

I also think the work of Erin Martin Design is amazing. I want a heart hanging in my house!
This little baby is surrounded by love...it's growing on the trees!
I have this bracelet...actually I have about 5 and I love them. When I wear it really does remind about the power of love in my life.

This incredible boutique hotel in the South of France is the perfect blend of raw beauty with modern design. Le Maison Pujol has only 5 rooms and each one is so incredibly gorgeous and unique. I am dying for the opportunity to visit this amazing hotel. What a true source of inspiration in so many ways. I wish I had more info, but I just don't:-)

i29 Architects

My latest post over at Design Milk features the work of my favorite architects! Love this space!
This residence at the Singel, Amsterdam is yet another amazing project by i29 Interior Architects, one of my absolute favorite interior architecture firms. i29 is innovative in their approach, but they are able to keep their designs so simple by combining materials in such an awe inspiring way while maintaining an incredible sense of calmness. This design takes things one step further outside the box, or maybe I should say inside the walls. This space is made up of freestanding objects and interior volumes. Within the space you feel the openness, but the interior of the volumes feel very intimate. The kitchen and wardrobe are contained within one volume near the entrance. The burled walnut is so rich against the white epoxy floors and white walls. This space seriously takes my breath away!

I studied the design of this bathroom for about 10 minutes before I realized that the exterior walls are not glass that allows the connection between the indoors and outdoors, but that they are a living Plantwall that is actually inside the bathroom and acts as a backdrop for the entire interior. I came across the Delfin + Postigo house over at Yatzer and am just amazed by it! When designing my goal is to "tell the story of each client through design". This home is the perfect example. It is so honest and true. Some may find this home offensive, but it truly captures the spirit and the character of the owners and I love that!
"Everything that these words entail, describe and symbolize is the essence of this residence in Madrid were the Spanish duo, fashion designer David Delfin and photographer Gorka Postigo reside. The marriage of these two individuals under one roof is the epitome of sexual elegance. David Delfin is famous for designing garments which extenuate the body giving femininity and sex -appeal for his fashion brand davidelfin. Gorka Postigo is an architect (AKAstudio) turned photographer whose work is expressed through the exploration of nudity and emotions through the human existence." -Yatzer

My Kitchen. Kind of...

So this week we are starting the demo of a kitchen and the cabinets we are about to demo, for the average person, are in great shape. However this client is not quite your average person (psst...director of a show that is 4 words and first word starts with a D and last word starts with and S.) Anyway, that doesn't really matter, but what matters is I was thinking I should salvage his cabinets and use them in my place to replace my "hideous" metal cabinets. I thought it was the most brilliant idea ever until I came across this picture over at Bloesem!

These ARE my cabinets! They are cream colored metal cabinets with a curved top drawer, and you know what...I think they are pretty freakin' cool now that I see them out of context. Now I realize what I need to do is not get new cabinets, but get a new SMEG refrigerator to replace this modern stainless steel thing that I've got! Oh the possibilities! Which color would I want?!!!

And I absolutely love this ruffled table cloth (and the table, chairs, and lighting)! I think it's one of the most darling things ever! I think it would be beautiful on the tables at my wedding. Mom...

A Kid's Playground.

So I think this is pretty much the cutest and most clever thing ever! I love when one challenges themselves to not be limited or confined by the four walls and ceiling that make up a room and have the ability to create something that maximizes the space and the volume within the structure. I can't even put into words how much I love this kids bedroom by H2O Architects!

The space is maximized and so much storage is created within this dynamic structure.It's like a child's own little architectural museum.
I just love how they did not feel constrained by the window.
Wow look at all that storage! Climb up the stairs, through the sliding door, and into a new little world!
Pretty sure this little one would be excited to be sent to his room!
